The first Church of Scientology was established by Scientologists in Glendale, California, in 1954.

L. Ron Hubbard, Founder of the Scientology religion, was born March 1911, in Tilden Nebraska. He passed away January 26, 1986.

Mr. Hubbard's best-known work, Dianetics - The Modern Science of Mental Health, was published May 9, 1950. It reached the New York Times bestseller list that year and again in 1988. Dianetics passed the 20 million mark in sales in 2002.

DIANETICS: A methodology that can help alleviate such things as unwanted sensations and emotions, irrational fears and psychosomatic illnesses (illnesses caused or aggravated by mental stress). It is most accurately described as what the soul is doing to the body through the mind.

SCIENTOLOGY: Scio (Latin), knowing in the fullest sense of the word, and logos, (Greek), study of. Thus, Scientology means knowing how to know. Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relations to itself, universes and other life. The emphasis is squarely on an exact application of its principles toward the improvement of one's life and the world in which he lives.

It comprises a vast body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths, and prime among those: Man is a spiritual being endowed with abilities well beyond those he normally envisages. He is also able to achieve new states of awareness he may never have dreamed possible.
