A HUMAN RIGHTS MESSAGE FOR 2006

The Church of Scientology International encourages everyone to do their part to make human rights a fact in 2006.

Our society faces many challenges. Terrorism, civil disturbances, national conflicts and threats to the environment are among the most serious.

These situations affect all of us. The 21st century is an era of interconnected economies and cultures; the Internet and advanced computer technologies have made communication almost instantaneous.

In an age when we can rub shoulders with anyone on Earth, no matter how distant they may be, the task of bringing creative solutions to the problems that beset the world cannot be left to governments alone.

Human Rights offer a truly embracive solution. Their vital importance is not in question; it has been said that no issue has greater international agreement. One hundred and ninety-one nations have endorsed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Yet surveys have found that even in democratic nations, the Declaration is little known. Therefore we must work to bring about greater awareness of this Charter for a world based on peace, freedom, justice and opportunity and an application of its principles by leaders and the public at large.

Probably the single most valuable action that men and women of goodwill can take in 2006 to create the better society that we all desire is to do everything they can to advance human rights within their sphere of influence.

To that end, the Church of Scientology International has produced many publications, films, public service announcements and a teaching handbook on the subject of human rights. We will be continuing to release and distribute these materials in numerous languages and throughout the world’s cultures as 2006 rolls out.

We encourage everyone to help foster a culture of human rights and thus lay the foundation for real trust between people in their communities.

As the founder of the Scientology religion, L. Ron Hubbard, observed, “On the day when we can fully trust each other, there will be peace on Earth.”
