Who is L. Ron Hubbard?

L. Ron Hubbard was a writer, philosopher and humanitarian who founded the Scientology religion. He passed away on January 24, 1986.

As a prolific and popular author, Mr. Hubbard is best known for his works on Dianetics and Scientology—which include 18 volumes of technical writings, 12 volumes of administrative works and more than 3,000 taped lectures describing various aspects of Scientology. He also wrote on the subjects of education, drug rehabilitation, morals, art and many other areas.

A remarkable man of many accomplishments, his legacy includes:

A drug rehabilitation program that has freed more than 250,000 people from the scourge of drugs. Today, this program is administered by Narconon International in 50 centers in 21 countries.

A Study Technology that is used today in 29 countries and on 6 continents, ranging from China to the black townships of South Africa and the inner cities of the United States. More than three million people around the world have attained literacy through the work of the organization that administers this technology, Applied Scholastics International.

The first non-religious moral code based wholly on common sense. This new moral code, which can be used by anyone to improve their lives, is presented by Mr. Hubbard in his booklet The Way to Happiness. Fifty million copies have been distributed internationally in more than 22 languages.

A method for hard-core criminals to increase responsibility, regain their self-respect and fully rehabilitate themselves through the Criminon program, which utilizes The Way to Happiness booklet, operates in hundreds of correctional facilities throughout the United States.

A revolutionary administrative and management technology that has a secular application in thousands of businesses throughout the world.

A wholly rational ethics system which anyone can use to enhance his own survival and that of others.

Breakthroughs in the subject of logic and data analysis that make it entirely applicable to every endeavor.

An examination and codification of the subject of art which enables creative people in every field to expand their abilities and realize greater success.

Added to these was a body of writing that includes fiction books in many genres, and nonfiction books, articles, novelettes and short stories, screenplays and poems, with more than 100 million copies of his works sold in 165 countries and 52 languages.

And then came an unparalleled feat of authorship in the 1980s when (to celebrate his 50th anniversary as a writer) he returned to the field of science fiction with the biggest science fiction book ever written – Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000 – soon followed by the 10-volume Mission Earth series of novels. All 11 of these books were consecutive bestsellers.
