WHAT ABOUT THE CHURCHES?

This church's steeple was completely knocked off by the high winds Hurricane Katrina brought with her

All that is left standing of this house of worship is a set of stairs and the bell

The flooding waters gutted out the main part of this church still left standing, but a complete rebuild is needed

Among the victims of Hurricane Katrina were the many churches that dotted the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts.
Churches are a vital force in the South, just as they are in most communities and their loss has caused great distress as many beautiful churches in the South were devastated by the raging storms — they too need disaster relief.
Scientology Volunteer Ministers in the course of their disaster relief activities came across one such casualty in Gulfport, Mississippi; the pastor of a the small, but faithful congregation of the Solid Rock Baptist Church, was in despair. Her bishop and his wife were killed in the hurricane, she lost other friends and her Church was a wreck. The raging winds had ripped off the roof, leaving the unrelenting rain free to ruin the inside of the building. Both the grounds and Church were devastated.
A team of Scientology Volunteer Ministers seeing the Pastor’s distress and the sorry state of the Church tackled the project, cleaning up the premises and the grounds to make it useable again for the congregation. The pastor was most grateful for the help, calling the Volunteer Ministers “angels” and offered her community center for Volunteer Minister training.
