Joined by a host of young and upcoming Hollywood actors and artists, actor Patrick Renna (Sandlot, The Falling Sky) opened the newest Mission of Scientology in style this weekend, inviting members of the 800-strong crowd to tour the new church in Los Feliz and take advantage of the services it offers.
The grand opening marked the culmination of a two-year project by Renna to bring a Scientology mission to Los Feliz. Hollywood personalities Jason Lee, Jennifer Aspen, Denise Duff, Chris Masterson, Marissa Ribisi and Jason Dorhing, all worked with him on the project.
Described by Vogue as “the Soho” of Los Angeles, Los Feliz has attracted numerous young actors and artists to make their homes there as well as top movie stars who forsook their sprawling Hollywood mansions and moved to its beautiful hills.
Renna told the attendees he decided to make Scientology services available in this neighborhood because he didn’t like the alcohol and drug problems and lowered moral standards he saw in the entertainment industry.
“Actors and musicians can create trends and be responsible for acts of kindness. On the other hand they can make people think that it is cool to be promiscuous and can glamorize heroin,” he said. He believes the Scientology Mission of Los Feliz will serve as an inspiration to other young adults to join him in his commitment to do something to make a difference.
The mission is located on Hillhurst Avenue, where its staff offer introductory Scientology courses and spiritual counseling. They also provide the Purification Rundown, a program that grew out of research by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard into the barriers to spiritual gain caused by drugs. Mr. Hubbard noted, “Drug residues can stop any mental health. They also stop a person’s life!”
Renna said he is happy to be able to make this effective program available to artists, local residents and anyone who wants to come and enroll on the service.
