The Church purchased the long-vacant architectural and historical treasure earlier this year and after months of renovation and restoration, it is open to people of every denomination to tour and partake in the religious services of Scientology.
Sitting at the crossroads of Columbus, Washington and Montgomery, the original 1909 Transamerica Building has long been associated with people helping people. A store on the site was the location in 1849 of the first Jewish religious service held in the city. The building housed Transamerica Corporation, founded by Amadeo Peter Giannini, an Italian banker who provided financial assistance to the underserved and was a major figure in rebuilding San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake.
“It is fitting that this magnificent building, with its long tradition of occupants who helped people, now houses the Church of Scientology” said Jeff Quiros. “It is our privilege to continue that tradition”.
Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center, and San Francisco Church Executives officially open the new church home.

The Bay Area has played more than a small role in Scientology history. Just across the Bay at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital at the end of World War II, while still a commissioned officer in the United States Navy, Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard conducted research into the mind and the spirit and their relationship to the body.
Fundamental principles found in Mr. Hubbard’s 1950 watershed book,
Dianetics - The Modern Science of Mental Health, were discovered during that period.
Building bridges to better lives in a city known for its bridges, the executives and staff of the Church of Scientology of San Francisco look forward to joining hands with their new neighbors and the opportunity to further enhance an area rich in cultural diversity.
