David Miscavige Dedicates New Church of Scientology of San Francisco
Original Transamerica Building is restored as hub of spiritual activity
Thirty-five years after it first opened its doors a block off Union Square, the Church of Scientology of San Francisco marked the opening of its new quarters in the original Transamerica Building, across from the Transamerica Pyramid, with a gala grand opening celebration Saturday, November 29, that included Mr. Willie Brown, mayor of the City of San Francisco, and San Francisco Police Captain Stephen Tacchini.
San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown presented a proclamation to Church of Scientology San Francisco President Jeff Quiros, recognizing the Church’s commitment to the “spiritual and cultural heath and diversity of any neighborhood it is part of.”

Special guest speaker was Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center, the organization responsible for upholding the purity and standard application of the Scientology religion. Mr. Miscavige spoke of the pivotal role San Francisco has played in the growth of the Scientology religion.
Master of ceremonies, Mr. Jeff Quiros, president of the San Francisco church,told the assembly of 2,500 that “today is all the more a celebration because we are joined by so many of the friends with whom we have worked side by side over the course of 35 years to make this a better place for all who call San Francisco home.”
A proclamation presented to the Church by Mayor Brown read in part: “...[T]he Church of Scientology of San Francisco [is to] be congratulated for its expansion into new headquarters, commended for its efforts in making the Bay Area a better place for persons of all races, colors, creeds and walks of life....”
It also recognized the Church’s commitment to the “spiritual and cultural health and diversity of any neighborhood it is a part of.”
