SCIENTOLOGY VOLUNTEER MINISTERS
RESPOND TO HURRICANE RITA

Respond to Hurricane Rita

September 26th, 2005

Scientology Volunteer Ministers working in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina for the last four weeks, respond immediately to Hurricane Rita

Scientology Volunteer Ministers have set up shelters in Vermilion Parish in the local high school

Hurricane Rita brought on tremendous wind damage in the Lake Charles district

Volunteers from all over North America have been working seven days a week in such locations as Biloxi, Gulfport, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and many towns in between.

When Hurricane Rita made landfall, teams of Volunteer Ministers went into action. Teams had been operating in Vermilion Parish seat of Abbeville, Louisiana since Katrina had struck. Rita hit lower Vermilion Parish hard and those teams and additional Volunteer Minister went into immediate action.

Volunteer Ministers, along with local authorities and other agencies, prepared shelters and received people who had been flooded out and in many cases arrived soaked to the bone.

Due to the intense flooding these people had had to evacuate their homes and a number of them spent the night up in treetops, on roof tops, anywhere to escape.

After arriving to the shelter in Abbeville, Scientology Volunteer Ministers provided not only food and necessities to these people, but also spiritual comfort to alleviate the trauma and upset.

Training is available to anyone wishing to volunteer his or her time.

If you can help with donations or wish to volunteer time, call the VM Hotline 1-800-435-7498 (US & Canada) or from outside North America call 1-323-960-1949 or e-mail vm@volunteerministers.org
