Travolta and Preston Fly in, Thank Rescue Workers and Comfort Evacuees at Baton Rouge:
Actors John Travolta and Kelly Preston flew into Baton Rouge, Lousiana, today to thank rescue workers and comfort evacuees who are being housed at the "River Center" shelter, where Scientology Volunteer Ministers have been helping disaster victims.
Accompanied by the Mayor-President of Baton Rouge, Mr. Kip Holden, and Chief of Police Jeff LeDuff, Mr. Travolta and Ms. Preston thanked Red Cross workers, government officials and Volunteer Ministers for their efforts. They then went inside the shelter, where they offered words of comfort and hope to many of those housed there, praising their resilience and encouraging them in efforts to rebuild their lives.
Mr. Travolta also described the value of "assists" that the Volunteer Ministers are using to help individuals overcome the trauma of loss of homes and loved ones.
Assists operate on the principle that one tends to withdraw mentally or spiritually from an injured area. Only by restoring communication with this area can one bring the spiritual element into healing, thereby greatly speeding the healing process. Assists are used to alleviate stress and physical aches and pains, or to orient a confused or distraught individual to his present environment. Assists are not "massages." They are techniques developed by L. Ron Hubbard to alleviate the spiritual component of physical pain, shock and emotional trauma.

Tetanus Shots Administered to 100 Rescue Personnel:
Today, a Scientology Volunteer Minister team headed by a medical doctor arrived to New Orleans with enough tetanus shots to innoculate 100 service personnel who are working around the clock and face a high risk of disease from the unsanitary conditions.
Word of the Volunteer Ministers work spread and it has been requested that a center is set up at emergency rescue headquarters in downtown New Orleans. This is where police, National Guard, and many other rescue and emergency personnel are in need of assistance. A volunteer truck will arrive tomorrow containing a large tent, clothes, toiletries and other supplies, specifically to service the rescue personnel.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers Truck in Supplies and Personnel:
Trucks and vans arrived in Baton Rouge today from Florida and Los Angeles filled with food, water, clothing and other relief supplies. Tomorrow trucks with more provisions are expected from Chicago and Canada.
Hundreds of additional Volunteer Ministers have joined forces with the teams in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Houston and Memphis that are manning relief shelters in those cities. A further team has also been sent out to areas still in desperate need of relief efforts — Biloxi, Gulfport and Slidell, east of New Orleans — the most severly hit by Hurricane Katrina.
