Opening a new breed of Church in major cities, Scientology doubled its size in the past five years.
To meet the skyrocketing demand for Dianetics and Scientology services and social betterment programs throughout the world, and utilizing the technological advances of the 21st century, Mr. Miscavige launched the Ideal Org (short for “organization”) strategy to transform all Scientology Churches into Ideal Churches and accomplish the goal L. Ron Hubbard set for Scientologists—to one day create Churches that were the physical embodiment of Scientology technology to help all beings attain spiritual freedom.
An Ideal Org is a Church configured to provide the full services of the Scientology religion to its parishioners and to the community. “Ideal” encompasses both the physical facilities and the types of services ministered to parishioners and the community. These Churches house extensive public information multimedia displays describing all aspects of Dianetics and Scientology, Founder L. Ron Hubbard, and the Church's social betterment and community outreach programs.
Religious services are provided in distraction-free and aesthetic course rooms and spiritual counseling rooms. There are also libraries, bookstores, film and seminar rooms and expansive Chapels for Sunday services, weddings, naming ceremonies and other congregational gatherings.
Since 2003 thirty-four Ideal Churches have arisen across the planet, including those in the world's cultural capitals—the National Church of Scientology of Spain in Madrid's Neighborhood of Letters; the Church of Scientology of New York, just off Times Square; the Church of Scientology of San Francisco, California, in the original historic Transamerica Building; the Church of Scientology of London, England, located in the epicenter of the city; the Church of Scientology of Berlin, Germany, near the Brandenburg Gate; and the Church of Scientology of Moscow, Russia, located just a short distance from the Kremlin and Red Square.
Twenty-four new Churches have been opened just since 2009. In April of that year, Mr. Miscavige dedicated three Ideal Churches—in Malmö, Sweden; Dallas, Texas; and Nashville, Tennessee. Then in October 2009, he dedicated Ideal Churches in Rome and Washington, DC.
January and February 2010 saw Mr. Miscavige opening Churches in Québec and Las Vegas, while overseeing the opening of the Churches of Scientology for Europe in Brussels. Just two months later, in April, Mr. Miscavige presided over the grand opening of the new Los Angeles Church. While in July 2010, he cut the ribbon on another three new Ideal Churches: in Mexico City; Pasadena, California; and Seattle, Washington.
In January 2011, Mr. Miscavige opened Australia's first Ideal Church of Scientology in Melbourne and further oversaw the February opening of the Russia’s first major Church of Scientology in Moscow. Then in March, he officiated the opening of the Church of Scientology of Tampa and in October, Twin Cities, Minnesota and Inglewood, California.
More Ideal Orgs opened in 2012 than at any time in history. It all began in January with the rededication and opening of the Church of Scientology of Hamburg, followed by the inauguration of the Church of Scientology Sacramento in California's capitol and the opening of the Church of Scientology Greater Cincinnati. In June, Mr. Miscavige opened a new Ideal Org every week, joining Orange County, California Scientologists to open their new Church (June 2), then rededicating Silicon Valley's Church of Scientology Stevens Creek (June 9), followed by the grand openings of the Church of Scientology of Denver, Colorado (June 17), the Church of Scientology of Phoenix, Arizona (June 23) and finally, inaugurating the transformed Church of Scientology of Buffalo, New York (June 30). In July, Mr. Miscavige rededicated the newly transformed Church of Scientology of Los Gatos, California, while in August he cut the ribbon on the first Ideal Organization in the Middle East, the Center of Scientology of Israel. Then, in October, Mr. Miscavige dedicated the Church of Scientology of Padova, Italy.
January 2013 saw Mr. Miscavige dedicate an Ideal Church of Scientology Cambridge, Ontario in Canada. Then, in February, it was the opening of the Church of Scientology of Pretoria in South Africa's capital.
Another 60 Churches are in design, planning or construction phases, including over a quarter of a million square feet under construction.
These are the Ideal Churches of Scientology, designed to present the wisdom of Scientology to many millions planet-wide.
