SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIASCIENTOLOGY IN THE SILICON VALLEY June 5, 2004Scientologists and guests from every part of Silicon Valley and communities beyond turned out June 5, 2004, for the dedication of the new Church of Scientology of Los Gatos, in San Jose, California. A representative of Church of Scientology International spoke of what the new Church meant to Scientology as a whole: “What we celebrate here at this Church is the very first of this new breed of organization—an Ideal Church of Scientology—to take itself from the point of entirely new premises right through to full completion. So, let me congratulate you all! “And while we have much to celebrate today, I wanted to also put it in a much broader perspective, because this moment, this Church, is only part of a massive foundation for even more.” On hand to acknowledge the importance of the occasion were City Council representatives from three communities with a large Scientology presence and a representative of the Silicon Valley NAACP. San Jose City Councilmember Linda J. LeZotte, representing the Mayor and Council of San Jose, presented a proclamation declaring June 5 Church of Scientology Day in recognition of the Church’s “unwavering commitment and dedication” to the community. City of Campbell Council member Matthew Dean acknowledged the Church for “all you have done and what you will do for all humanity through Mr. Hubbard’s wisdom.” Dr. Nedra Jones, human rights activist and Executive Committee member of the Silicon Valley Chapter of the NAACP, spoke of a fortuitous conversation with a Scientologist that resulted in her taking a stand against injustices to children and families. “It takes people of conscience like you standing together to make this world a better place.” Mayor of Los Gatos Mike Wasserman affirmed his pride in calling the Church a partner for “what you have accomplished and what it means for the future of my city and all others in this region.”
